Want A Great Family Dog? Choose A Rottweiler Puppy

by Samuel Sullivan

If you are considering getting a dog for you and your family, you have many options to choose from — including rottweiler puppies. Below is information about this dog so you can be sure it will fit in well with your family.

Loyal and Loving

A Rottweiler is loyal to their family, as well as will show you a lot of love. These dogs do get large and robust, but they are gentle with children, so they make great playmates for them. When your dog becomes tired expect them to jump on your lap while you are sitting down and lay next to you. If allowed, they will sleep in your bedroom or one of your children's bedrooms at night as they love to be near their family.

One thing a Rottweiler does not like is to be alone. If you work outside of the home and are gone for many hours each day your dog will not be happy. Because of this, a Rottweiler would not be a good choice for situations like this.

Protective

Because Rottweilers love their family so much, they are very protective. If they sense danger, they will alert you. For example, if someone tries to break into your home in the middle of the night they would not get very far. Your dog would be right there to greet them and not be happy.

If you are out walking your dog and a stranger appears, your Rottweiler will be able to sense danger. If so, they may bark and move you away from the person. They are not aggressive dogs, however, and you do not have to worry about them attacking friends and other family members. They will attack someone if they see them hurting you or your family, however.

Exercise Needs

Just as with any dog, a Rottweiler needs to have enough exercise. If not, they will become unruly inside your home and be hard to handle. Take your dog on a walk with you every day or jog with them. They also love to swim and go hiking and just about anything outside. If you have a backyard, fence it in and play with your dog every day.

Rottweilers are muscular dogs, and they are athletic. They are also herding dogs and do great on a farm. Exercising will prevent your dog from becoming overweight and will keep them healthy. Getting enough exercise outside also gives your dog time with other people and animals. This is important as good socialization will help your dog be even happier.
